vi scriviamo a 23 anni da quella tragica serata del 29 Maggio 1985 all’Heysel, in nome della civiltà e della fratellanza dei popoli, in nome del calcio che noi tutti amiamo, seppure in luoghi e culture differenti, che ci accomuna nella medesima passione, ma che purtroppo ci ha anche divisi e segnati in tempi diversi profondamente nel dolore.

We are writing you 23 years after that tragic May, 29th night in Heysel, in the name of civility, peoples' brotherhood and in the name of football we all love, even if in different places and culture, that puts us together in the same passion, but also divided and marked us with pain in different moments.

Noi non vogliamo giudicare nessuno, non vogliamo alcuna vendetta, e nessuna giustizia umana potrebbe mai ripagare fino in fondo, per il male perpetrato da voi su quegli innocenti, le loro famiglie. Vi scriviamo per ricordare insieme quel pomeriggio di follia ed il martirio di quei 39 poveri esseri umani. Conosciamo bene anche la vostra storia. Nel bene e nel male. Avete una lunga lista di lutti anche voi.

We don't want to judge anyone, we are not seeking any revenge, and no human justice could ever completely refund those innocent people and their families for the pain they suffered by you. We write you to remember together that crazy afternoon and those 39 human beings' martyrdom. We know your story too, for better and for worse; you have a long bereavements' list as we do.

Fu come riaprire la ferita ancora sanguinante, assistere al disastro di Hillsborough il 15 Aprile 1989. Comprenderete bene, dunque, il senso di queste nostre parole di tifosi e ancora prima di uomini. Stiamo cercando di creare una “sala della memoria”, se fosse possibile nel nuovo stadio che la Juventus costruirà, per non dimenticare i nostri 39 fratelli deceduti a Bruxelles in quella maledetta finale. Abbiamo scritto e contattato chiunque, carta stampata, giornalisti, televisioni, un politico italiano famoso…

Looking at 1989 April, 15th Hillsborough disaster was just like open again that bleeding wound. So you will surely understand the real meaning of our words as fans and men. We are trying to create a “Memory hall”, maybe in Juventus new arena, to remember our 39 brothers who fell in Brussels that damned night. We wrote everyone in Italy, newspapers, journalists, televisions, even a famous italian politician...

La Juventus fino a questo momento non si è degnata nemmeno di risponderci, ed in pochissimi ci hanno dato retta. Il vostro sito ufficiale contiene una pagina dedicata all’Heysel, mentre quello della Juventus no… Vi rende onore, come in occasione dell’ultimo incontro di Champions League, la volontà di ricordare insieme per sempre i nostri caduti e di suggellare un’amicizia, anche se non proprio così semplicemente praticabile. Sono convinto intimamente di una cosa, però, che le vittime di Bruxelles e quelle di Hillsborough sono già gemellate fra loro e fanno festa insieme angeli fra gli angeli.

Juventus F.C. didn't gave us any answer whatsoever, and very few people considered us. Simply think that your official site contains a page about Heysel, but Juventus' site does not. As we faced in last Champions League match, your attempt to remember together our fallen angels and to seal a new friendship, even in such a complex context, gives you a lot of honour. I am deeply convinced that Brussels' and Hillsborough victims are already twinned with each other and that they smile together, angels among angels.

Besides honouring you as a person and as a sportsman, I would like to inform you about my 1 year long (and counting) battle for the same cause in my country, facing great difficulties and indifference.

Oltre a farti onore come individuo e come sportivo volevo segnalarti che io da quasi un anno ormai sto battendomi per la stessa causa nel mio paese, impattando in grandi difficoltà ed indifferenza.

In May 2008, twenty-three years after Bruxelles' massacre, I proposed a petition (linked hereafter) on the web, very similar to yours, with the help provided by a working group, spontaneously formed on vecchiasignora.com forum:

Il fine dell'opera è quello di supportare ogni iniziativa rivolta alla memoria di questi nostri poveri fratelli caduti per colpa dell'Uefa e per mano di una parte violenta della tua tifoseria, da cui, ne sono certo, avete preso le distanze e non avete più nulla in comune da molti anni in Kop.

You were very kind in commemorating our martyrs before our last match in 2005 Champions League. I do believe you were sincere. Our organized fans, unfortunately, didn't appreciate it at all and still hate you today, but, frankly speaking, I believe that the word "friendship" remains the real goal of a long and winding walk we must take together, sharing brotherhood as men of good will and the olympic spirit that's underneath every sport challenge. Forgiveness is in every man's heart, only love can move it and if there is no memory, there is no love...

Siete stati molto gentili nella commemorazione dei nostri martiri prima dell'ultimo incontro ufficiale di Champions nel 2005. Ho motivo fondato di credere anche sinceri. La nostra tifoseria organizzata, purtroppo, non ha gradito affatto e vi detesta ancora oggi, ma in tutta franchezza, io credo che la parola amicizia resta la vera meta di un cammino lungo e difficoltoso che dobbiamo percorrere assieme, accomunati dalla fratellanza degli uomini di buona volontà e dallo spirito olimpico di ogni competizione sportiva. Il perdono alberga nel cuore di ogni uomo, solo l'amore lo muove e se non c'è memoria, non c'è amore...

The real peace between our "enemy" fan groups passes through these two sister rooms, located in Juventus new stadium and in Anfield Road.

Ti svelo un piccolo segreto. Da bambino giocavo con I miei amici a subbuteo ed avevo come come squadra il Liverpool, quello di Keegan, Kennedy, Neal, Rush, Clemence, Dalglish....

They were my favourite foreign team, they gave me strong emotions and I used to consider them the English Juventus, for glamour and nobility.

Era la mia squadra estera del cuore, mi emozionava tantissimo e la paragonavo alla Juventus d'Inghilterra per prestigio e nobiltà...

Then came the damned May 29th, 1985, I stopped loving your team. Poi qual maledetto 29 maggio del 1985, ho smesso di amare la tua squadra. I'm often asking myself if the true reason preventing me from hating them could be the key to return to shake their fans' hand, in a time I hope not too far away. In this moment I feel a spontaneous will to hug you close, since we represent two humble and firm peace workers.

Mi domando se il motivo per cui non sono riuscito ad odiarla mai veramente, come moltissimi altri tifosi della Juventus, possa rappresentare la chiave per tornare a stringere la mano, un tempo spero non lontano ad ognuno dei suoi tifosi. In questo momento mi viene spontaneo, però, di abbracciarti forte, perchè io e te rappresentiamo due umili e tenaci operai della pace.

I'm begging you, if you can and if you want, to leave for me a little rose at the monument to Hillsbrough Angels and to send me a picture of you, (postmaster@saladellamemoriaheysel.it), so I'll be able to make my work even more precious, showing a right man's face.
